About the Team Generator
The Team Generator splits any list of names into a set number of randomly balanced teams or groups. Paste or type in your participant list, choose how many teams you need, and it distributes everyone as evenly as possible using a secure random shuffle.
Names are shuffled first, then dealt out round-robin style across the number of teams you chose, so team sizes stay as balanced as the numbers allow (for example, 10 people into 3 teams produces two teams of 3 and one team of 4) while assignment order remains completely random.
Use Cases
Teachers and trainers use it to split a class into random project or discussion groups without visible favoritism. Sports coaches and game night hosts use it to form even teams for a match or tournament bracket. Office managers use it for team-building exercises or randomly assigning employees to breakout groups. It's also handy for splitting a large group into smaller batches for scheduling, such as staggered shifts or session slots.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will every team have exactly the same number of people?
Teams are balanced as evenly as possible. If the total number of participants doesn't divide evenly by the number of teams, some teams will have one extra person, distributed randomly rather than always to the same team.
How many teams can I create?
You can generate anywhere from 2 to 20 teams, as long as you have at least as many participants as teams.
Can I regenerate the teams if I don't like the split?
Yes, click Generate Teams again at any time to reshuffle the same participant list into a brand new random team split.
