Measure your WPM and accuracy, find the words you get wrong, and practice them. Works on phones and desktops.
SmartKit TypeSpeed is a fast, free typing speed test that works equally well on your phone's touchscreen keyboard and on a physical desktop or laptop keyboard. In a few seconds you'll know your typing speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy percentage, and exactly which words you struggle with - so you can practice and actually improve, not just see a score.
Words per minute is the standard way to measure typing speed. Because real words vary in length, WPM is calculated using a fixed "word" of five characters. Your net WPM counts only the characters you typed correctly, divided by five, divided by the minutes you spent typing. Your raw WPM counts everything you typed including mistakes. The gap between the two tells you how much your errors are slowing you down.
On a physical keyboard, the average adult types around 35-45 WPM. A speed of 60-70 WPM is considered fast and is comfortable for most office and data-entry jobs, while professional typists often exceed 80-100 WPM. On a mobile phone, speeds are naturally lower - most people type 25-40 WPM with their thumbs, and 50+ WPM on mobile is excellent. TypeSpeed lets you compare both so you can see where you're strongest.
Most typing testers are built only for desktops and feel awkward on a phone. TypeSpeed is mobile-first: it uses your real Android or iPhone keyboard, keeps the text readable above the keyboard, and turns off autocorrect so your true speed is measured. Switch between Mobile and Keyboard mode any time with one tap to test both.
The fastest way to improve is to fix accuracy first, then build speed. After every test, TypeSpeed shows you the exact words you typed incorrectly and lets you generate a focused practice round using only those weak words. Repeating your problem words trains the muscle memory that actually raises your WPM over time. Practice a little every day, keep your eyes on the screen instead of the keys, and let speed come naturally as accuracy improves.
