Smart Forms Quiz Sessions Get Server-Backed Reliability

Smart Forms quiz sessions became much more reliable with the August 1, 2026 update.

This release strengthens access-code quizzes that use per-question timers, refresh recovery, and multi-device continuation. Quiz attempts now behave more like a server-backed session, giving participants a steadier experience even if they refresh, reopen, switch devices, or move between questions.

Saved Answers Now Drive Final Submission

Access-code quiz attempts now use saved answers as the source of truth during final submission.

Previously, if a participant answered questions across multiple devices or reopened the quiz before submitting, the final response could depend too heavily on what was visible in the last browser session.

Now, answers saved during the attempt are carried into the final submission, helping ensure the completed response reflects the participant’s full saved work.

Better Multi-Device Continuation

Quiz attempts now handle continuation more safely across devices and reopened sessions.

If a participant refreshes, closes a tab, or continues from another device, the system can rely on the saved attempt state rather than only the current page view.

This makes access-code quizzes more stable for real-world situations where browsers crash, phones sleep, or users return from another device.

Accurate Time Taken From the Server

Time Taken is now calculated from the server-side attempt start time.

That means reopening the quiz or loading it in a new browser tab no longer resets the time calculation from the latest page load.

This keeps quiz timing more accurate and prevents accidental or intentional time resets before submission.

Stronger Autosave Before Navigation

Autosave has been tightened around question navigation and submission.

Answer changes are now flushed before moving to the next question or submitting the quiz, reducing the chance that a final selected answer is lost because the browser moved faster than the save request.

Per-Question Timer Reset Fix

Timed questions now use a more reliable absolute deadline based on the server-recorded question start time.

This fixes an issue where clicking Previous could sometimes rebuild the timer from an old page-load snapshot and make the countdown appear to restart.

Going forward or backward between questions should now preserve the real remaining time.

More Stable Quiz Attempts Overall

Together, these changes make Smart Forms quiz attempts more dependable across refreshes, closed tabs, multiple devices, and previous or next navigation.

The final response is now more accurate, saved answers are respected, and timing is tied to the server instead of the browser tab.
